X ~ Microchip reimagines Ellen de Meijer’s original painting X—a portrait of competition, resistance, and the precarious theater of modern visibility. In this edition, the strong female executive, with her dart poised in hand, is set against a backdrop of circuitry and digital codes. The shift from painted surface to graphic screen print underscores the work’s dialogue with technology, amplifying its resonance with the infrastructures that shape freedom of speech, surveillance, and personal branding in the age of open platforms.
De Meijer heightens the tension through bold fields of saturated color: neon yellow gloves, a vivid red dress, and the abstracted geometry of a cobalt “X” that anchors the composition. The subject stares outward with unflinching resolve, her dartboard eyepatch signaling both target and shield. She becomes, in the artist’s words, “aggressor and victim at the same time. Vulnerable but assaultive.”

About the artist |
Ellen de Meijer (b. 1955, Netherlands) is a Dutch contemporary artist whose practice has found strong resonance with collectors in the United States and throughout Latin America. As a female artist working in portraiture, she is known for her incisive depictions of modern-day archetypes—figures that embody the contradictions of status, material wealth, and authenticity in an age defined by global capitalism and digital culture.
Her work has been exhibited at major international fairs including Art Miami, Art Stage Singapore, and Hong Kong Contemporary, and in 2022 she was selected for NADA Curated by the New Art Dealers Alliance. Her paintings are also housed in prominent private collections, including the VanDenBroek Foundation, one of the Netherlands’ top three.

Ellen de Meijer applies the technique of hand-pressed (silk)screen printing to each design. The prints are based on original paintings. Each print design features layered compositions of color and distinct design elements.
Unless stated, 'Screen Prints Only' excludes a picture mat or picture frame.
Framed prints are attached to an archival foam core lift with archival hinge tape, to appear floating above the bottom mat. The artwork retains its natural wave and texture.
The Limited Edition Screen Prints are packaged in a non-branded cardboard box.
