With X ~ Flag, Ellen de Meijer transforms her archetypal portrait of a powerful female executive into a charged reflection on competition, nationalism, and identity in the digital age. The figure—marked by her dart poised in hand, the yellow glove raised in an ambiguous gesture, and her iconic dartboard eyepatch—stands against the backdrop of a stylized flag. Red rays radiate outward, while stars anchor the lower band, framing the subject within the visual language of dominance and allegiance.
The screen print format heightens the work’s graphic impact: flat fields of American patriotic red, blue, and white collide with the organic texture of her dress, underscoring the tension between state power, individual agency, and the spectacle of public image. Ellen de Meijer (b. 1955, Netherlands) is a Dutch contemporary artist whose practice has found strong resonance with collectors in the United States and throughout Latin America. As a female artist working in portraiture, she is known for her incisive depictions of modern-day archetypes—figures that embody the contradictions of status, material wealth, and authenticity in an age defined by global capitalism and digital culture.
Her work has been exhibited at major international fairs including Art Miami, Art Stage Singapore, and Hong Kong Contemporary, and in 2022 she was selected for NADA Curated by the New Art Dealers Alliance. Her paintings are also housed in prominent private collections, including the VanDenBroek Foundation, one of the Netherlands’ top three.

Unless stated, 'Screen Prints Only' excludes a picture mat or picture frame.
Framed prints are attached to an archival foam core lift with archival hinge tape, to appear floating above the bottom mat. The artwork retains its natural wave and texture.
