ABOUT

In WAGMI, three male figures gather around a dark opening in the floor — a symbolic void suggestive of ambition, speculation, and collective illusion. The scene unfolds as a contemporary allegory of wealth and hierarchy, structured by aspiration and belief.

One figure stands elevated on a chair, clad in a gleaming gold jacket and prominently displaying a gold watch — a theatrical emblem of financial triumph. Another kneels nearby wearing virtual reality goggles, immersed in a constructed digital realm, his posture implying surrender to an unseen narrative. A third figure, dressed casually, leans forward in anticipation, his attention fixed on the golden marker of status, as if seeking entry into an exclusive order.

As in much of de Meijer’s work, these men function not as individuals but as archetypes within a system of modern success. The composition stages a dynamic of elevation, submission, and longing — revealing how contemporary structures of wealth rely as much on illusion and projection as on material gain. The void at the center becomes both literal and metaphorical: a space into which belief, desire, and capital are collectively poured.
