Currently available in the EU and USA.

Arctic Indictment is a contemporary figurative work by Dutch artist Ellen de Meijer that confronts the quiet violence of climate denial through restrained symbolism and psychological tension. Selected for NADA Curated by Frieze curator Fatoş Üstek,· exhibited internationally.

The painting depicts a woman holding a dead bird balanced on a plastic balloon—an unsettling image that references global warming, environmental collapse, and the artificial optimism of consumer culture.

The pale tones and delicate fabric of the woman’s dress evoke the fragility of the Arctic poles, while the composed, aloof expression reflects a broader social detachment from looming ecological disaster.

Curator Review
The original painting was selected in 2022 for NADA Curated: Reduction to Satire (Reductio Ad Satura), an exhibition curated by Frieze curator Fatoş Üstek, internationally acclaimed art curator, critic, and leading voice in contemporary art, who describes de Meijer’s practice as a form of satire that exposes uncomfortable truths routinely glossed over.

"Through irony and controlled realism, de Meijer explores how life is increasingly shaped by peer pressure, performance, and the search for validation—often at the expense of responsibility and empathy." ~ Fatoş Üstek
