ABOUT

In Eve (Gen Z), a young girl stands dressed in her mother’s clothing, inhabiting the gestures and symbols of adulthood. The scene captures a moment of imitation that is both tender and charged — a rehearsal of identity in formation.

Rather than depicting a specific child, de Meijer constructs an archetype of generational becoming. The oversized garments function as inherited frameworks: roles, ambitions, and expectations absorbed long before they are consciously chosen. The act of dressing up becomes a subtle meditation on how identity is shaped not only by desire but by lineage.

Presented as a diptych with 4th Generation Bill, the work reflects on continuity across time. Together, the paintings examine how authority, aspiration, and social positioning are transmitted — sometimes quietly, sometimes unconsciously — from one generation to the next.
