About the Artist

Artist Ellen de Meijer (1955, Amsterdam) can be seen as an ‘old-fashioned’ contemporary Dutch painter. Her academic schooling resulted in a journey through many different styles and techniques, resulting in a vast experience spread over 20 years that eventually formed Ellen de Meijer into a unique artist, still for many undiscovered. She uses classical oil substances and techniques as well as contemporary techniques and materials.

A central point of attention in her work is reserved for the struggle between human sense and instinct and the fast-paced and materialistic post-modern society. In all her work, Ellen de Meijer acknowledges but also fights with modern society’s broad compassion of what defines us all: vulnerability and insecurity.

Simultaneously to her work as professional painter, Ellen de Meijer founded a privately held commercial art school opened for pupils of different ages and suitable for team build-sessions from different business fields. Her professional work has been exhibited in  Amsterdam (the Netherlands), Groningen (the Netherlands), Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Aalsmeer (the Netherlands) and Paris (France).
